I am
often all too willing to allow my own tender new growth to be plucked
out from the roots by relatively neutral outside sources.
Such
was the case this morning when I thought one of my health related phone
apps wasn't working right and I thought I was not getting the results I
wanted after eating better and exercising for a month.
I
drove to work telling myself not to let those apparent setbacks trip me
up (“don't let defeat trip you”—listen to your own words, girl), keep
on doing what you're doing and trust the process. By the time I arrived,
my phone app was working correctly and had received the information and
I googled to find out my disappointing results were not as bad as I'd
thought.
Sometimes all it takes is a little straight talk from myself to my myself! So—another
crisis averted (meaning, mostly, that I did not attack the vending
machine and eat all the chocolate candy I could afford)!
I wrote a song once, the first few lines as follows: "So many times I fail to stop and listen, too busy with my life and all my schemes; then I find myself just sittin' here and wishin', for the comfort of Your voice and the sweet peace that it brings..." While my intent was to point us to His voice, I'm agreed that it also helps to listen to our own inner voice instead of the panic going on in our mind.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good song, Jim! Sometimes it just takes a little time to sit and be quiet...to let the guidance come.
DeleteI can relate to your discouragement. I am a diabetic, and after ignoring it for years I've just spent a month really trying to eat right and get active. And still my numbers are way too high. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteYou've hit a nerve (in a good way), I'm sending you an email!
